How to use commercial steels for direct solar application? A smart solution based on SiOx sol-gel.

ITMA Materials Technology has participated at the European Conference on Nanofilms (19-21 October_ Bilbao) organised by IK4_Tekniker. In its oral presentation, Dr Sanchez demonstrated the viability of SiOx based sol-gel as suitable solution to make compatible different ‘rough’ steels substrates (ferritic stainless steel, hot dip galvanized/aluminized steels and bare low carbon steel) in terms of surface levelling, adhesion, chemical antidiffusion and dielectric properties. Moreover, amorphous silicon TFSC were successfully deposited, showing power conversion efficiencies similar to the ones achieved on SLG. The developments have been carried out taking in mind a future upscaling and low cost single ILS have been deposited by different coating methods (spin, dip and spray) at lab-scale level (5cm x5cm samples).
